Counterpoint Research, a company specializing in market data, released this Monday (17) a report that reveals a new drop in shipments in the PC segment. The survey indicates that the computer segment suffered a 28% decline between January and March of this year, compared to the same period in 2022.

in total, around 56.7 million units were sold in the 1st quarter of 2023 corresponding to the second worst number in a decade, second only to the 1st quarter of 2020 with the onset of the covid-19 pandemic. The disappointing result at the beginning of the year may be related to the delay in demand, a problem that has been dragging on for quite some time.

Despite this lasting obstacle, the company’s specialists are optimistic about the response in the coming quarters, when the market should progressively recover. According to the data, the Apple was the manufacturer most negatively impacted in recent monthsfalling from 7.1m to 4.4m handsets, down 38%.

The second most affected company is Dell, going from 13.8 million to 9.4 million, that is, a drop of 32%. ASUS and HP appear in third and fourth position with -28% and -24%, respectively. The decline in question is in line with the 2022 indicators, but should be progressively overcome in the future.

These makers are expected to run out of stock in the coming weeks, but we don’t know if there will be any incentive for consumers to replace their outdated laptops with newer options. The recent drop in the dollar — currently quoted at R$4.93 — should favor prices in Europe, however it is still too early to confirm this.
