Eurovision final LIVE updates as Ukraine become favourite to win

People are settling down to watch this year’s Eurovision song contest this year with Ukraine the bookie’s favourite to win.

Sadly, Ireland’s Brooke Scullion will not be competing tonight having been knocked out in the semi-final.

The ‘That’s Rich’ singer was hoping to be the first Irish singer to reach the final since Ryan O’Shaughnessy in 2018.

The contest begins at 8pm and can be watched on RTE 1.

War torn Ukraine has blown away the international audience so far with people around Ireland placing bets on the Kalush Orchestra ‘s victory.

Switzerland insist that boys do cry

Celine Dion was Switzerland’s win way back in 1988, when she took to the RDS.

This year ‘Boys Do Cry’ was put forward. It was giving early Westlife vibes with a slow pace and a black leather jacket.

Finland arrive on stage wearing yellow raincoats

Finland are playing Jezebel. The lead singer rocked a questionable yellow coat and released a matching balloon.

The country had previously won with heavy metal band Lordi, who scarred a generation of young viewers back in 2006.

Portugal set a slower place

Portugal have brought things back to basics with a circle of clapping singers, a smoke machine and flashy lights.

It is the first slow song of the night.

Romania take to stage with catchy tune

Romania’s catchy tune and glam costumes (including flared trousers) wowed those at home. Some pointed out that they were robbed by the running order.

The Czech Reoublic have taken to the stage.

The tune was labelled “a right banger” by those on Twitter.

Ukraine bookie’s favourite to win

Ukraine is currently the bookie’s favourite to win.

Their song of choice is called Stefania and will be performed by Kalush Orchestra.

The grand final of the Eurovision Song contest has begun.

RTE’s Marty Whelan described the opening act as dancing “welders.”

Ireland won’t be competing tonight
