Double pack and new record: NHL star Leon Draisaitl shoots Oilers to their first win of the season
Germany’s ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl led the Edmonton Oilers to their first NHL win of the season with a brace. The 27-year-old put the Canadians on the road to success in a 6-1 win at the Nashville Predators with the opening goal in the ninth minute of the game, prepared two more goals and also scored the interim 5-1 (28th minute).
Draisaitl also set a franchise record. He now has 128 power play goals, making him the most successful player in Oilers history in this category. Before the duel with the Predators, Draisaitl shared the top spot with Glenn Andersson and Ryan Smyth (126 power-play goals), while the great Wayne Gretzky scored 125 times in the majority for Edmonton.
” I have some strong teammates who give me chances. They know exactly how I want the puck and when ,” said Draisaitl: ” The record belongs to them as much as it does to me .”
Oilers stop negative trend
At the start, Leon Draisaitl and the Edmonton Oilers suffered two defeats. The Cologne native has big plans for his tenth NHL season. After Edmonton failed in the play-offs in each of the last two seasons to eventual winners, winning the Stanley Cup is the “ ultimate goal ” for the center.
John-Jason Peterka also celebrated his first success in the third game of the season . The 21-year-old and the Buffalo Sabers beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 after extra time, but remained without a scorer in around 12 minutes of action.
Meanwhile, Philipp Grubauer and Nico Sturm have to wait for their first successes . Goalkeeper Grubauer lost with the Seattle Kraken 1:4 against the Colorado Avalanche, Sturm and the San Jose Sharks lost 3:6 to the Carolina Hurricanes. In the third defeat in the third game, the 28-year-old was unable to score a point in around 15 minutes.
