Custom ROMs prevent Android from sending tons of data to Google and the device manufacturer. We are testing /e/OS 1.0 after years of beta.
/e/OS version 1.0 brings an improved app store and a new data protection tool. It’s a bit surprising that the version counter only now jumps to 1, because /e/OS worked just as well in the previous test as custom ROMs work – the long beta phase seemed to be due to the developers flirting.
As before, /e/OS is based on the custom ROM LineageOS without Google services and without apps from the device manufacturer. It currently still uses Android 11. It is configured more extensively and user-friendly than most other custom ROMs and contains more apps, including some in-house developments.
