Google is already preparing Chromebooks to be more versatile for the next school year, taking into account that the school sector is one of the sectors that makes the most use of these devices, although not the only one.

The company has presented the novelties that it is going to bring to Chromebooks, highlighting the integration of the PDF editor in the Gallery application and the possibility of making videos, both in a simple way and in an advanced way, through Google Photos.

Thinking about the next season after the holidays

Regarding the PDF editor, Google indicates that it will be possible starting next week via the Gallery app, working with PDFs, allowing users to “highlight text, fill out forms, sign documents, and add text annotations directly.”

Most Chromebooks don’t come with a PDF editor by default, and the third-party solutions that can be included are often quite limited in capabilities, making the integration of PDF editing features in the Gallery app much easier. practical.

We will have to wait a few more months to have the new movie editor and video editing features in Google Photos, which will begin rolling out to Chromebooks before reaching other devices.

The movie editor will allow you to create videos with a few simple touches using selected videos and photos, and where it will be enough to choose the theme from the available options so that the video is generated automatically. This, for those who do not want to go through learning curves, although for those who want to have more creative control, they can use the Google Photos movie editor.

Users will have tools to reorder clips, crop them, various adjustments, various filters, such as Real Tone to enhance skin tones, and more.

Additionally, Google Photos will have integration with the Gallery and Files applications of Chromebook, and at a professional video level, LumaFusion will also reach Chromebooks. Google notes that:

LumaFusion’s multitrack video editor lets you add graphics, visual effects, transitions and distortions, audio tracks and sound effects, narration, color grading, and more.

Google also recalls the number of existing productivity applications on Chromebooks that will be waiting for users back from vacation, such as Meet, Chat or Drive, or even Canva, Figma and Adobe Express, although those who are more interested in working on compositions musicians can use FL Studio to “arrange, record, mix, and master quality music, and add instruments like synths, drum kits, and more.”
