Several reports point out that Apple Glass, Apple’s first smart glasses, should be released in 2025, but today analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is reporting that we will have to wait a little longer. According to him, the device should hit the market only in 2026 or even 2027.
Kuo says that Apple should use the technology of Metalens to replace the plastic lens on the wearable. To the Metalens they are composed of a flat material with nanostructures that better concentrate light to avoid phenomena of ocular distortion, in addition to simplifying the construction of the lens, which must have several integrated sensors.
To the Metalens should be used in other Apple products, debuting first on the iPad Pro to cover next generation Face ID. Kuo says they should also be used on iPhone screens in 2025 or 2026, but only if the experience is successful with iPads.
It is worth mentioning that the Apple Glass should not be confused with the Reality Pro virtual reality glasses, which may be announced this year to compete with the Galaxy Glasses.
The expectation is that the Metalens become more popular between 2028 and 2030, particularly in LiDAR sensor systems and low-cost cameras.
Apple hasn’t commented on any of the reports so far, so we still need more confirmation before saying for sure when the smart glasses should hit the market.
