Android Auto bug: Huge icons and taskbars make the function unusable

Some users report a misbehavior of Android Auto: the icons and taskbar are huge, completely out of scale for the display in which they are displayed, making it difficult to use the entire operating platform via traditional touch screen. Luckily, the voice commands get in the way, but the situation is anything but ideal.

It seems that there are not many reports: the related threads on Reddit or on the official Google support forum have however only been opened this week, and perhaps they simply have not yet been populated. Google is already aware of the problem and is working on a solution but so far it seems that the common denominator is Android 12. The reports come mainly from Samsung smartphones (for example Galaxy A53), OPPO (Find X3 Pro), OnePlus (9 Pro) and Xiaomi (Mi 11 Pro).

SX: how it should be | DX: bug

The bug may not necessarily show up on every boot, but only sporadically. Updating to a new version of Android Auto, changing the connection cable or connecting wirelessly doesn’t seem to have any effect, as does restarting the smartphone and reinstalling the app (or clearing cache and storage). In short, so far no convincing workaround has been found, even if a user says they fixed it by installing an “older version” of the app (unfortunately there are no more specific details).
