Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 may have new core configuration clocked at 3.7 GHz, Adreno 750 GPU and more

Update (03/24/2023) – FM

Qualcomm is preparing the launch of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for 2023, and according to rumors, the new platform for top-of-the-line phones promises a huge leap in performance to compete with Apple’s A17 Bionic. For this, the chip must use a new configuration of cores to optimize its operation.

According to renowned developer and leaker Kuba Wojciechowski, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will have a new configuration of 1 + 2 + 3 + 2 and will use a cluster code-named “Titanium”. This cluster will consist of two ARM Cortex-A7 cores.

According to the informant, in total, there would be two clusters of ARM Cortex-A7 cores. Based on rumors, the chip configuration should be as follows:

  • “Gold+” cluster with 1 ARM Cortex-X primary core
  • “Titanium” cluster with 2 high-performance ARM Cortex-A7 cores
  • “Gold” cluster with 3 ARM Cortex-A7 high performance cores
  • “Silver” cluster with 2 ARM Cortex-A5 low-power cores

The difference between the “Gold” and “Titanium” clusters is still unknown, since they should use the same cores from the Cortex-A7 line, but it is possible that the “Titanium” cores are aimed at workloads with a higher clock rate, while the “Gold” cores have the objective of executing simpler tasks with reduced consumption.

Remember that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has two clusters of ARM Cortex-A7 cores: one of them uses two Cortex-A715s, while the other has three Cortex-A710s. Both have identical 2.8GHz frequencies but are geared towards different workloads.

Wojciechowski adds that the new generation of hardware should abandon support for 32 bits. However, this shouldn’t affect developers as major app stores only support software with 64-bit architecture.

Finally, the leaker comments that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be equipped with the new Adreno 750 GPU, whose current clock is 770 MHz. It is possible that this frequency will change before the official launch of the platform, scheduled for the middle of the second half of 2023.

Update (03/20/23) – RS

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has frequencies revealed and easily surpasses its predecessor

The speeds of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 have already been revealed. According to information from the portal gizchinathe company’s new processor must operate at frequencies of 3.5 GHzwhich can reach 3.72 GHz. That is, it is consistent with previous rumors that mentioned numbers above 3.7 GHz.

Recently, the model even appeared in the geekbench, but details about their speeds were not shown. In this sense, what is important to know about the component is its score, which was 1930 in the single-core part and 6236 in the multi-core test. As with the S23 line, the chip may have an exclusive version for the Galaxy S24.

For comparison, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 scored 1524 in single-core and 4597 points in multi-core, which shows a big upgrade if you take the test into account. In addition, it is also superior to the results obtained by Apple’s A16 Bionic chip, which scored 1877 in single-core and 5447 in multi-core.

With this, it can be said that Qualcomm’s new chip would become the most powerful available when it is launched. But, there are still no guarantees that this will actually come true, as it is a version of the chip for engineering purposes. So, there may be changes regarding the numbers.

Another detail worth considering is the fact that other manufacturers, like Apple itself, are still creating new versions of their chips. Therefore, Qualcomm’s model leadership may not last long. Meanwhile, also check out a little about the recently released Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 by the company.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 may have 3.2GHz Cortex-X4 core, UFS 4.1 and exclusive version for Galaxy S24

Qualcomm achieved good results with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, its new platform for high-end mobile phones that increases Android’s competitive power against Apple’s iOS. Now, the manufacturer appears to be working on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and preliminary hardware information has just been revealed by the leaker. revegnus.

In a post on Twitter this Thursday (09), the informant shared the alleged specifications of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with a new configuration of cores that combines a Cortex-X4 at 3.2 GHz, 5 cores Cortex-A720 at 3.0 GHz and 2 Cortex-A520 cores at 2.0 GHz, such as have not yet been officially presented by ARM.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 would be manufactured using TSMC’s N4P (4 nanometer) process, ensuring the same advantageous efficiency as its predecessor. This could allow Qualcomm to end up working at even higher frequencies. Previous rumors indicated that the chip would reach 3.7 GHz, surpassing the clock of Apple’s supposed A17 Bionic.

The platform should be even faster in graphics processing with the Adreno 750 GPU, and to ensure even more efficient reading and writing of data, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 should use storage with UFS 4.1 standard, which details have yet to be revealed. The chip’s memory would be the same LPDDR5 at 7,500 Mbps.

Another change is the upgrade to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 5G, the world’s first radio frequency modem compatible with 5G Advanced. This hardware promises to be 20% more efficient than the Snapdragon X70 5G and has the AI Suite Gen 2, a set of artificial intelligence resources that improves performance in network connections.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 promises to be a real record holder on Geekbench. The current generation impressed on this benchmark platform by breaking the 1,600 point barrier in single-core on Geekbench 5. revegnusThe next generation will be even more powerful and will exceed 1,900 points in single-core and 6,230 points in multi-core.

The record in question was won by the Galaxy S23 Ultra, equipped with an exclusive version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Qualcomm should maintain its partnership with Samsung and develop an optimized variant for the Galaxy S24 in 2024, but so far, none of the companies comment publicly on the matter.
