For some time now there have been rumors of the possibility that Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will mount one 200 MP camera; Samsung itself is the only company that has so far presented sensors with such a high resolution – specifically we have the ISOCELL HP1, dating back to 2021, which is very large and a “pure” flagship in all respects; while more recently the ISOCELL HP3 has arrived, with smaller dimensions and therefore on less performing paper (due to the less light captured). So the question so far has been: which of the two S23 Ultra sensors could it employ? The answer might be … Neither.
According to the well-known leaker specialized in the events of the South Korean giant Ice Universe, a third 200 MP sensor could be in the pipeline, which could in fact be the middle ground between the two already presented. The name would then be ISOCELL HP2. HP1 has pixels from 0.64 micrometers, while those of HP3 stop at 0.56 micrometers, so it is safe to assume that HP2 will arrive at 0.60 micrometers precisely.
According to rumors that emerged earlier, HP2 could use an RGBW matrix; the sensor could then perform a 6-in-1 binning in such a way as to guarantee a default output of 34.6 MP (calculating that the precise resolution would be 208 MP). This means that, on paper, the sensor could record video in 8K at 60 FPS. For now, all details are still unconfirmed, but the hypothesis is at least fascinating. remember that the main camera of Galaxy S22 Ultra (photo in opening) is 108 MP.
It is worth mentioning that so far neither HP1 nor HP3 have yet arrived on the market. Specifically, no smartphone with a 200MP camera has yet been launched. However, things should change very soon – let’s just say in just a few hours: Motorola has already amply anticipated that tomorrow, August 2, it will launch the Moto X30 Pro in China, and the 200 MP have been officially confirmed. We do not know which of the two sensors will be used; in any case, Xiaomi should echo just a few days later.
