oppo reno9, first details on the new series

OPPO Reno 9 Pro Plus promises excellent performance even with an “underclocked” SoC, i.e. with an operating frequency lower than what it is able to reach under normal conditions: in the past few hours a benchmark on AnTuTu has emerged according to which all three core clusters ran at at least 200 MHz less than Qualcomm’s specifications, yet it placed itself practically on par with another smartphone equipped with the same chip at maximum power. The numbers in more detail, to have a clearer situation:

  • Prime core frequency: 3GHz (normal: 3.2GHz)
  • Gold core frequency: 2.5GHz (normal: 2.8GHz)
  • Silver core frequency: 1.8GHz (normal: 2GHz)
  • AnTuTu Score: 1,094,959, just 5,479 less than a Vivo X Fold Plus 5G with the same chip and normal clock

The circumstances are not clear of the underclock – a power saving mode may be active, or it is just an intentional choice of the manufacturer to limit the heat generated or the energy consumed. But if Oppo has somehow managed to guarantee the same performance even without squeezing the chip all the way, well, all for the better, right?

We remind you that the smartphone, together with the other models of the Reno9 Series (a “standard” and a Pro, according to rumors) should be presented tomorrow in China. The technical specifications should be as follows:

  • SoC: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1
  • at least a cut of memory from 16 GB of RAM + 512 GB of internal storage
  • rear cameras:
    • 50MP main Sony IMX890
    • 8MP (ultra wide angle?)
    • 2MP
  • battery: 4.700mAh with 80W recharge
