iPhone 14 Pro did not have impressive sales due to possible Apple failure in the A16 Bionic

Apple’s R&D division may have unintentionally hurt iPhone 14 Pro sales by equipping the model with a chipset that, despite being powerful, failed to outperform Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in benchmark tests. As revealed this week by stress tests, the Apple model was beaten by the vivo X90 Pro Plus.

This superiority of Qualcomm over Apple has not happened for some time and may be the result of improvements in the Snapdragon chipset and internal conflicts between the engineers of the Cupertino giant, is what the newspaper suggests. The Informationwhich claims to introduce considerable changes to the component at the final stage of development.

According to anonymous sources, Apple intended a huge leap in performance between the A15 and the A16 Bionic, however, the first prototypes of the CPU had high energy consumption, making the launch unfeasible. Although iPhones are equipped with small batteries, iOS and chipset optimization contribute to a balanced energy expenditure.

Faced with this problem, the manufacturer’s specialists chose to produce the A16 Bionic based on the graphical interface of its predecessors, a decision that removed support for Ray Tracing from the device’s software — rumors suggest that the Pro and Pro Max models would be compatible with this technology natively, but that didn’t happen.

“Apple is still above market expectations for generation-over-generation performance for its chips. However, that has been waning,” said Ian Cutress, chief analyst at More Than Moore, a semiconductor analyst firm.

“Given their position in terms of people and manufacturing, it is a question mark whether they will be able to maintain their rate of growth.”
