The company Netflix It continues to be a source of news for different movements that aim to increase their profits by exploiting the resources they currently have. An example is that the subscription with ads will be a reality in a short time. In addition, it is carrying out tests to sink its teeth into those who share their passwords and a new one has just been discovered that surely is not to the liking of many.

Some time ago it was known that, in some regions -such as Peru or Chile-, tests were being carried out in this regard that were not exactly very well received and, in general, ended in failure. But Netflix returns to the fray now in countries such as Guatemala, Argentina or the Dominican Republic (minor markets in general). And, in this case, the way to proceed is different when it comes to getting additional income but always with the objective of those who share passwords.

What is Netflix testing?

Well, what is being done is that users have to establish a place like habitual residence, and, when the use of the account in another location other than this is detected and 15 days have passed, an amount must be paid because it is thought that the account is being shared. Of course, there will be exceptions, such as holidays (something that will have to be notified so that the platform does not proceed with the payment).

And how many places can you add? Well, depending on the account type. For example, if you have a basic subscription, the option will be one more (while, if you use a premium option, you can go up to three). In addition, the costs they are not being the same in all regions, since for example in Argentina you pay about $1.20 more, while in the rest of the countries the amount amounts to three dollars.

In short, a somewhat more sensible way to carry out the additional control, but one that users who share the password currently do not like. This may possibly have a cascade of service cancellations because, right now, the big problem that Netflix has is not the one that they want to tackle. Therefore, the boomerang effect may be something that happens if the green light is finally given for this to happen.

The problems, really, are elsewhere

It is understandable that Netflix wants to amortize its services and we must not forget that sharing accounts is something that the platform does not allow (and this is indicated in its rules when registering). But it is no less true than today its contents are not the best between all the VOD services on the market. Other options such as Disney + or HBO Max (for example), have higher quality series and movies and future options that maintain the level. It is not a matter of offering a lot quantity to convince currently And if things don’t change, this could severely penalize Netflix… And beware of this, Microsoft may be on the prowl.
