At the event held on August 14, Xiaomi demonstrated not only its new smartphone, tablet and smart bracelet, but also the second version of the CyberDog robot, which was first introduced in 2021. The new model remains a four-legged dog-like robot, but its appearance and functionality have been significantly changed. If the first generation was similar to a copy of the Spot robot from Boston Dynamics, then the second version has a more expressive design. It has a redesigned body with more expressive “paws” and a head with ears that really resemble those of a dog.

The second generation CyberDog has also become lighter and more compact. The weight is only 8.9 kg and the height is 36.7 cm (compared to 14 kg and 40 cm in the first version). CyberGear microdrives developed by Xiaomi give the robot greater maneuverability. They make the robot more flexible and able to perform complex maneuvers such as consecutive back flips and quick recovery after a fall. The maximum travel speed is 1.6 m/s. The robot perceives the environment using an improved Fusion system, which includes 19 sensors, including a fisheye camera, a depth sensor, LiDAR and ToF sensors. These sensors provide vision, tactile sensations and orientation in space.

In addition, CyberDog 2 can be used as a smart home hub, allowing you to control lighting, household appliances and other devices through the XiaoAI voice assistant.

Like the previous generation, the new CyberDog is also open source, allowing enthusiasts to experiment and add new features.
