Android TV and Google TV change: no more APKs from May 2023 space for App Bundles. A small revolution, the one communicated by Google to developers, for optimize the resources available to televisions, on average lower than those of smartphones, tablets and company. Google explains that on average in 2022 smartphones have a minimum capacity of 64 GB, smart TVs of just 8 GB, an abysmal difference that has pushed the company towards special apps.

So instead of using APKs that contain resources that are more useful for smartphones and derivatives than for televisions, as is the case now, even on large screens, there will be App Bundles (acronym AAB) with what you need. Developers therefore have the burden of creating the AAB of an APK by May 2023 that they want to make available on Android TV (the very popular Android TV) and Google TV, a work according to Google’s about three days against a “deadline” set six months later.
THE BENEFITS OF AAB OVER APK
Google promises that the App Bundle version of an Android Package Kit is “smaller, faster, updated and better” for use on smart TVs. THE key benefits:
- smaller size: it is estimated on average the 20% less
- less chances of apps being uninstalled given the smaller size
- usable on all android devices not just smart TVs.
Apps that will not be converted in time, so by May 2023, from APK to AAB may be invisible to smart TVs.
