According to recent reports in the local press, Russia would be choosing to import laptops made in Belarus, as a way of avoiding trade sanctions imposed by Western countries after the invasion of Ukraine.

The Belarusian computers are manufactured by the Horizont company, initially dedicated to the manufacture of household appliances, but which at the end of last year began its foray with this type of equipment.

The horizont computers They are mainly made of Western components, but their casing and some other parts are produced locally. Even though a tiny part of its components are of Belarusian origin, these equipments are qualified as “Made in Belarus”, given their local manufacturing.

Responding to a presidential decree issued by the Belarusian president, Alexander Lukashenko, the production of these computers began at the end of last year, on December 22, 2022. In the presentation of this computer, Lukashenko himself admitted that he had given it the homework to “intelligent people to “roam” the world and find the best of what we cannot yet create, processors, software”. The first units of this equipment, presented under the name of “H Book”, were officially launched for sale in Minsk just two days after its presentation.

Despite the local imprint that is sought to be given to these computers, the teams could have a skillfully disguised problem, since according to a Belarusian public figureSergei Bulba, only 12% of the components of these laptops aimed at home use are of Belarusian origin.

Bulba also mentions that the number of electronics supplied to build these machines is significantly higher compared to the actual number of finished laptops, suggesting the possibility that these “extra” components are being transferred to the Russian Federation, though for At the moment that has not been confirmed. Nevertheless, according to the Interfax news agencythe producing company already has plans to supply these products to the Russian market.

The first model released, H-book MAK4, has been described by the manufacturer as a modern computer, comparable to the big brands for quality and productivity. Its hardware was designed on the basis of the 11th generation Intel Core i3 processor, with 8 GB of DDR4 RAM, a 256 GB SSD storage unit, integrated graphics and Windows 11 as the pre-installed operating system.
