The only iPhone in the 2023 range with a periscope telephoto lens it will be the Pro Max, the Ultra variant is even better because it seems that the denomination was born with the iPhone 11 “gonna die” with iPhone 14 Pro Max to make way for Ultra, more direct towards its rivals and which Apple, moreover, already uses for the Silicon chips of the Mac and iPad and for the Apple Watch. Of the periscope zoom on iPhone 15s arriving in September, we have been talking about since at least mid-2022, when it was assumed that he would have taken photos 6 times closer than the wide angle.

The rumor launched in the past few hours by The Elec it doesn’t go into that kind of detail, it just does a more business-oriented analysis. Behind Apple’s choice to change the name to the Pro Max there would (also) be the intention to more markedly differentiate the Ultra variant from the Pro. One of the elements would be the periscope telephoto lens, which we should see this year only on iPhone 15 Ultra and not on iPhone 15 Pro.

On the “simple” Pro, again according to the rumor, Apple should introduce it in 2024, with iPhone 16. In September, therefore, the first iPhone with periscope telephoto lenses could arrive, and if this were the case, the only certain thing is that the optical zoom will be greater than the 3x currently guaranteed by the telephoto lens of the iPhone 14 Pro. According to the Asian newspaper, Apple would be finalizing the agreements with the new suppliers of the sensor with optical stabilization to be used as a zoom of 15 Ultra.

There LG Innotek would have obtained the largest order: 70% of the component would come from its factories, while Jahwa Electronics, the other manufacturer in the running, should supply the remainder. A weighty, consolidated name for an element that is not among the simplest to produce, and Apple, after the difficulties this year with production due to Covid in China and the troubles suffered with the iPhone 14 Pro, wants to keep – you bet – more than ever out of trouble.
