After many previews, OnePlus has finally presented the OnePlus 12, its new reference mobile that will begin a new era for a brand that needed it. It is the most powerful and complete mobile phone launched so far by OnePlus, a change of direction compared to the OnePlus 11 and an attempt to fight against the iPhone 15 and the next Galaxy S24 .

And, if the OnePlus 11 was a ‘back to the beginning’, with a very capable mobile but with some cuts to reduce the price, the OnePlus 12 is the complete opposite : it represents the best of what the Chinese manufacturer is capable of. , with its own design lines and some components that we had not seen until now in a mobile phone, neither from OnePlus nor from its ‘sister’ brands such as OPPO.

But we must remember that this mobile celebrates the brand’s ten years of existence , and it does so by maintaining the characteristics that made it unique and some of the classic functions that other brands have eliminated.

This is the OnePlus 12

Of course, that means that the ‘Alert Slider’ is maintained , the physical selector that allows you to put the phone on silent or ‘Do Not Disturb’ quickly and easily; Only now it is on the left side for a matter of interior space.

But along with this look at the past is a look at the future. The most powerful processor available for Android today could not be missing, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 . However, it is not enough to simply put this chip in and rest on your laurels; Other leading models have shown that this processor generates a lot of heat and can reduce performance if it gets too hot.

To avoid these problems, the OnePlus 12 is the first phone in the industry to use a 9140 mm2 vapor chamber cooling system, and also the first to use dual-cycle heat dissipation , using two dissipation layers that work together. to keep temperatures lower.

perhaps too many manufacturers have ignored as something secondary or not worthy of attention; But iPhone owners know very well how important it is. The OnePlus 12 is the first phone to use a ‘bionic vibration’ turbo motor , and promises to be the first Android phone to surpass the iPhone in vibration quality and precision.

OnePlus 12 cameras

Cameras are already very important when choosing a mobile phone, and that is why OnePlus has made sure to live up to it, with a set of cameras that stands out more than ever but maintains the design of previous models.

The main camera is based on a Sony LYT-808 sensor with a resolution of 50 Mpx, similar to the one used in the OnePlus Open that received good reviews in this regard, and which has a 23 mm lens with an aperture of f/1.6 . The collaboration with Hasselblad continues with the use of algorithms to improve the image.

The second camera is a 48 Mpx wide-angle camera, with a Sony IMX581 sensor and f/2.2 aperture, equivalent to a focal length of 14 mm. Finally, the star is the 64 Mpx telephoto camera manufactured by OmniVision, which offers 3x optical zoom and allows 6x ‘lossless’ zoom .

Wireless charging returns

Many users were disappointed when they saw that the OnePlus 11 did not have wireless charging, something that might have made sense years ago to reduce costs, but today put it at a disadvantage compared to other top-of-the-range devices. The OnePlus 12 fixes this, implementing 50W wireless charging, in addition to 100W wired charging. The interesting thing is that it achieves this with one of the largest batteries we have seen in this range , with a capacity of 5400 mAh, much higher than that of its rivals.

The OnePlus 12 needs that battery to offer acceptable duration taking into account the ‘hardware’ it has. For example, the 2K resolution AMOLED panel promises to be spectacular, with a maximum brightness of no less than 4,500 nits ; The screen is curved at the edges to give the ‘premium’ touch and has an adaptive refresh rate, between 1 Hz and 120 Hz.

Another aspect where OnePlus fell behind the competition is resistance to the elements. The OnePlus 12 boasts IP65 water and dust resistance, which should be enough for everyday use and improves on the OnePlus 11 and its IP64. It will be available in three color options: black, white and green, the latter with a very curious effect, similar to marble, while the white is glossy and the black is matte.

In China, the OnePlus 12 will have a starting price of 4,299 yuan (560 euros) for the version with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage; although it can reach 5799 yuan (756 euros) for a version with no less than 24 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. The launch in Spain has not been announced yet, but OnePlus has confirmed to EL ESPAÑOL – El Androide Libre that the OnePlus 12 is scheduled to be launched globally along with other products in early 2024.
