A Microsoft today announced that it has begun offering iPhone support for the Phone Link app on Windows 11. The company said this functionality will be available to all Windows 11 users in mid-May.

According to Microsoft, with the Phone Link app for Windows 11 and the Link to Windows app for iOS, iPhone users can make and receive calls, send and receive text messages and view notifications directly on their PC.

As MacRumors pointed out, this means that Windows 11 kind of supports iMessage, although there are a number of limitations, including the lack of support for group chats, photos, videos and conversation history, for example.

Messages appear as gray bubbles in the Phone Link app, which means that iMessages and SMS text messages cannot be distinguished on a PC. Furthermore, content is only delivered to a PC while the iPhone is connected via Bluetooth.

Still according to Microsoft, the messaging feature is limited by iOS. Image/video sharing and group messaging are not supported. All content is session-based and will only be sent when the phone is connected to the PC.

The company highlighted that the iPhone must be running iOS 14 or higher, and this feature is not available for iPads or Macs. Remember that Microsoft was testing iPhone support for the Phone Link app in beta since February.
