The e-commerce platform Mercado Livre announced an expansion of its workforce in Europe. In all, more than 5,700 new professionals will join different teams throughout 2023.

According to the company, at the end of this year, the staff of the Free market should surpass the mark of 21 thousand direct employees in the country, which represents an increase of 37% in comparison with last year.

The Technology and Product areas are expected to absorb the majority of vacancies, which cover several positions and locations. In turn, Mercado Pago, the group’s digital bank, should also expand its workforce in the country.

Further details about vacancies and places of availability have not been disclosed.

“The expansion of the staff is part of our expected contribution for this year in the country, where we want to expand the number of cities with fast deliveries, on the same day or the day after the purchase, accelerate the development of our digital advertising business, improve the marketing levers and expand the presence of Mercado Pago”, commented the Senior Vice President of Commerce and leader of Mercado Livre in Europe, Fernando Yunes.

Since 2022, Mercado Livre maintains the flexible work model for employees in the administrative areas. The company believes that, while the remote format can contribute to productivity, the face-to-face format generates greater connection.

Among operations in Latin America, Europe currently has the largest number of employees. At the end of 2022, Mercado Livre had more than 15,600 employees in the country, but, with hiring already underway, the current staff exceeds the 18,000 mark.
