One of the largest technology channels in the YouTube was demolished this Thursday (23) after being invaded by a group of hackers. The Linus Tech Tips account belongs to the presenter Linus Sebastian and has more than 15 million subscribers.
After the hack, the channel was renamed by the hackers, who removed the videos from the account and replaced them with live streams that feature the CEO of twitter and the Tesla, Elon Muskwhich is not involved in this type of cyber attack.
The channel has been removed from public viewing on the platform, but there is still no information on how the hacker group managed to take over Linus Tech Tips. The channel-based forums issued an alert about their current issues.
Two other YouTube channels belonging to the same team, Tech Quickie and Tech Linked, were also hacked. Linus Media Group has been notified, however, there is no prediction of when the channel will be recovered and return to its activities.
This incident is not the first time that a major YouTube channel has been hacked. In 2022, the popular VFX-based Corridor Crew channel was hacked and replaced with a live stream unrelated to the account’s theme.
In Europe, the technology channel Adrenaline was also a victim last year. In the event, the videos were also deleted and some live broadcasts about bitcoins were made. Fortunately, the site team was able to recover the account and the content.
YouTube has not commented on the case.
