the head of xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty, confirmed this Thursday (15) that the Microsoft is “fully focused on the next generation” of consoles. In this way, the company no longer intends to launch more new games first-party AAA for the Xbox One.

In an interview with Axios Gaming, Booty highlighted that all upcoming exclusive and high-budget games under the umbrella of Xbox Games Studios will be released for Xbox Series X|S and PC only. What marks the end of Xbox One for Microsoft.

“We made the transition to the ninth generation (of consoles),” said Matt Booty in the interview with the website Axios Gaming.

So when it comes to games first-party AAA, which need more robust hardware, it is already a certainty that Xbox Game Studios will not release them for Xbox One. That was pretty clear during Xbox Games Showcase 2023held this week.

At the event, Microsoft revealed several of the company’s main exclusives for 2023 and 2024, and games like Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Forza Motorsport, Fable and Avowed will not arrive on Xbox One, but only for the current generation of consoles.

It is worth noting that this Xbox One “abandonment” only refers to Microsoft’s studios, but other companies may still release their games for the older generation console. However, developers seem to follow the same path.

An example of this is Capcom, which released Street Fighter 6 and the remake of Resident Evil 4 for the PlayStation 4, but not for the Xbox One. Now, with this line from Matt Booty, the trend is that Microsoft’s old console receives less and less games.
