Google Chat starts allowing quoting messages for replies

Goodbye! Google Hangouts is closed and users must migrate to Chat this Tuesday (1st)

After integrating with Hangouts, Google Chat invested in new features to improve the user experience in group chat and individual conversations. The novelty of the time is the citation of messages in the answers.

The company announced the arrival of the feature through its Workspace blog, in addition to providing a visual representation of how it works (as you can see below). Almost every other chat app on the market has this feature in some form, so Google came up with a breakthrough whose absence was highlighted by users.

Google shows that the quote in a reply contains the link to the original message, which is standard behavior. Users will be able to access the feature this month of May, that is, sometime in the coming weeks.

All Chat users can find message quotes in the app when the launch is complete. Google is making it available to everyone, including personal accountsWorkspace account holders, and legacy G Suite Business/Basic subscribers.

This functionality tweak follows a major Material Design update last month, as well as some minor additions that Google Chat received last year. With Slack positioned as one of Chat’s biggest competitors, Google implemented a handful of smaller features that sought to bring parity with its rival communication app.
