After months of beta testing Apple is finally releasing stable versions of iOS 16.5, iPadOS 16.5, macOS 13.4, watchOS 9.5 and tvOS 16.5 for all supported devices. Let’s check out all the changes present in them now.
Both the iPad and iPhone systems are getting the same new features including an LGBTQ+ Pride wallpaper for the lock screen, bug fixes for podcasts in Apple CarPlay and Screen Time settings.
There is also the new Sports tab with scorecards in the Apple News app (not available in Europe) to follow all the news of your team’s matches first hand.
Lastly, there is also a fix for Spotlight which could become unresponsive in certain situations.
watchOS 9.5 brings little new to its official changelist. According to Apple, now the Apple Developer Program will limit the download of beta versions for developers with a new method.
The new version of the system only brings a new Pride wallpaper to match that of iOS and iPadOS 16.5, in addition to security fixes for the watch system.
macOS Ventura 13.4 is getting the new Sports tab in Apple News and the new method for installing beta versions that was initially released in iOS and iPadOS 16.4.
Among the issues fixed are:
- Auto unlock with Apple Watch that doesn’t sign in to Mac;
- Delay in connecting to Bluetooth keyboards after restarting Mac;
- Bug when navigating webpages with VoiceOver
- Problem syncing or resetting Screentime settings.
Finally, we have tvOS 16.5 with the new Multiview feature. With it, it is possible to watch more than one live stream at the same time, which is ideal for sports games, for example, as the new function will be available for MLS Season Pass and Friday Night Baseball games.
tvOS is also getting support for the standard Matter with Thread Protocol 1.3, which allows any compatible device to work as a Thread edge router in the smart home system. This integration is also present in the HomePod Software 16.5 which was also released today.
These should be the last major updates released by Apple before the iOS 17 announcement, which is expected to be made at Apple’s WWDC developer event in June 2023.
