AirPods Max: Apple's most expensive headphones won't have Adaptive Audio and other AirPods Pro features

Apple announced new features for its wireless headphones during WWDC 2023, but several of those features showcased at the developer conference should be reserved for the AirPods Pro — which should disappoint users of AirPods Max, the most expensive sound accessory in the company’s portfolio, which costs R$ 6,590.

It is possible that this decision was made by the hardware variation of the models. The AirPods Pro, despite being smaller and costing “only” R$ 2,599, have an advanced state-of-the-art audio processor known as H2. The AirPods Max is equipped with the H1, so its noise canceling performance is inferior.

Among the novelties revealed for Apple’s most advanced in-ear headphones, Adaptive Audio stands out. It is a feature that combines active noise cancellation and transparency mode, allowing devices to analyze the environment and balance modes during accessory use.

Also, another feature that won’t make it to the AirPods Max is Siri’s new wake command. Users with devices configured in English will be able to call Apple’s virtual assistant without having to say “Hey” before “Siri”. There is still no prediction that this change will reach users who speak Portuguese and other languages.

Conversation Detection and Custom Volume will also not be available for AirPods Max. Apple points out that the new features use machine learning to work, which reiterates that the absence of unprecedented functions for the brand’s most expensive headphones is due to limitations of the H1 chip.

The only features that should come to AirPods Max are improvements to Dynamic Pairing, which will allow you to switch the headphone connection between devices more quickly, and the function to mute and unmute the sound through the Digital Crown.

Launched in 2020, AirPods Max stands out for offering Spatial Audio with Dynamic Head Tracking, eight microphones for active noise cancellation and autonomy of up to 20 hours. It is possible that this model will be succeeded by a new generation in 2024, according to the latest information released by leaker Ming-Chi Kuo.
