Logitech relaunches its most popular gaming mouse: The 502 Hero X gets optomechanical switches and USB-C. It’s considerably more expensive for that.

Logitech has unveiled an updated version of its G502 gaming mouse. The G502 X comes with a slightly modified design and, according to the manufacturer, is lighter than previous editions of the G502 mouse, which is one of the most popular input devices among gamers.

For the first time, the G502 X also uses opto-mechanical hybrid switches for the mouse buttons, which are intended to combine the click feel of mechanical switches with the speed of optical switches. In practice, according to Logitech, this results in low latency for mouse clicks.

There are no major changes to the previous model with the additional buttons apart from the right and left mouse button: So there are buttons for “Forward” and “Back”, two additional thumb buttons and a switch button with which you can switch between step or running mouse wheel . However, there is an innovation with the DPI switch on the inside: it can now be removed if desired. This might come in handy for people who accidentally turn it on every now and then while gaming. Like previous models, the mouse’s “Hero” sensor has up to 25,600 dpi.

The G502 X comes in three variants, each available in black and white: The basic model is called the G502 X and is connected to the computer with a cable. It costs 80 euros. The two more expensive versions can be operated wirelessly: the G502 X Lightspeed costs 150 euros, the G502 X Plus comes with additional LEDs and costs 170 euros. Unlike their predecessors, both models charge with USB-C and support Logitech’s proprietary Lightspeed standard for wireless connections.

The new X models of the G502 are therefore significantly more expensive in practice than the previous editions: Although the recommended price of the current G502 Lightspeed is also 150 euros, you can get the model from Amazon and Co. for 80 euros. The wired G502 is available from less than 45 euros. Accordingly, you pay almost double the price for the new models, at least right at the market launch.
