There is an update being rolled out for Nothing Phone (1) and no, it’s not the one that brings Android 13 in a stable version. It is Nothing OS 1.1.8, and it is once again based on Android 12, while the refinement phase of Nothing OS 1.5 continues thanks to the feedback of users who have decided to try the public beta available for over a month. The latest stable update available brings with it the patches Android Security’s January 2023 and the Nothing X app for the company’s earphones. Here is the complete changelog:

  • Nothing X app installed by default in Nothing OS
  • Fixed an issue that caused the interface to hesitate under some conditions
  • bug fixes and optimizations.

There would also be the latest security patches, but curiously Nothing has not indicated them among the news. Good thing that the Nothing X app for Nothing-branded wireless earphones arrives, an app that until now was in beta while now it is in a stable version and becomes part of the user interface. The hope is that the Android 13-based interface will soon follow the same path, and that this may be the last update to Android 12 before Nothing OS 1.5.

  • Nothing X | Android | Google Play Store, Free.

It could, since so far Carl Pei’s company has released a new version every two months on average. Between now and March Android 13 stable should already be a reality. The former inspirer of OnePlus in December he had admitted that the firmware of Phone (1) was a bit immature, so the team had to work hard to remedy the various youth defects and this postponed the start of the work of adapting the interface to Android 13. The other reason it concerns the Nothing OS code, of which the team wanted to rewrite certain parts that had been entrusted to an external partner.

Nothing Phone 1 is available online from eBay at 404 euros. To see the other 12 offers click here. (updated January 20, 2023, 4:35 pm)
