The supply of gamer-type cell phones in Europe is very scarce, so the search for older models that are more affordable has been increasing. A good model that arrived in 2021 around here and that appears in offers for half the price now in 2023 is the ROG Phone 5s. Is Asus’ top still a good deal? Let’s find out.
The design of the ROG Phone 5s is identical to the traditional ROG and features the classic logo with RGB LED on the back that changes color according to incoming notifications or other chosen actions. It’s a big, slick phone that comes with a simple case that helps with protection without hiding its design.
Its 6.78-inch screen with Full HD+ resolution and 144 Hz AMOLED panel ensures strong brightness, high contrast and a wide viewing angle with great fluidity. The sound consists of two speakers with dedicated amplifiers for quality sound and powerful bass.
What changes in this turbocharged version of the ROG Phone is that we have the Snapdragon 888 Plus platform that brings a more powerful processor. The dissipation system is a little more robust to handle the increased heat, but the disappointing part is that the performance was inferior to the other model, perhaps due to a lack of software optimization.
The ROG Phone 5s battery lasts well, despite being below the other model in autonomy. The recharge time has increased, which doesn’t make sense since we have the same charger and battery size. In camera, on the other hand, we saw an advance despite the same photographic set. ROG 5s records sharper photos and better videos.
