a russian court fined Twitch more than 4 million rubles (~$57,000) for failing to remove content that is deemed “pro-Ukraine”.
According to the Interfax agency, Moscow has closely monitored all types of content posted on social networks, websites, blogs and even seen what is said in lives held on the internet.
Therefore, when something that “violates” the rules on the “campaign in Ukraine” is identified, the platform is obliged to remove the content under penalty of a fine. In case of repeated non-compliance, authorities can remove a site from the air.
For now, Twitch or Amazon – the company that controls the platform – have not officially commented on the matter. Anyway, many people were taken by surprise to learn that Twitch is still working in Russia.
With the invasion of Ukraine last year, many tech companies abandoned the Russian market, including Microsoft, Samsung, Google, Apple and many other tech companies.
So it’s somewhat surprising that Twitch hasn’t followed suit in the west.
