In addition to releasing some features that have been awaited for some time, WhatsApp beta also started testing a very important novelty this Wednesday. We are talking about ability to send video messages through the app.

The feature had already been studied by the messenger for some time and only now it reached the entire beta public on Android and iOS in versions 2.23.13.4 and 23.12.0.71, respectively.

According to WABetaInfo staff, the novelty works in a very simple way: just tap the microphone button on WhatsApp. If it turns into a camera, you can record a video and send it to your family or friend.

See the examples below:

When the user sends or receives a video message, they need to tap on it so that it opens and the audio can be played. An important detail is that the resource records and sends the material in real time, something that gives a sense of immediacy.

Another important point, which is highlighted by WhatsApp, is that video messages are also end-to-end encrypted. Finally, the user cannot forward these videos to someone else, something that was implemented as a way to protect privacy.

However, it is clear that the functionality is not screenshot-proof, as it is not view-only. The video messaging feature is currently being rolled out slowly and gradually, and should reach full beta within the next few days.
