Distribution fragmentation is something Google has a hard time dealing with, while Apple constantly insists that most of its iPhones run the most current version of its operating system.
Although the problem is far from being solved, new figures show that Android 13 adoption has more than doubled since Januaryreaching 12% of all Android phones.
Google brought monthly updated information to inform developers what percentage of Android devices were running a given version of the operating system. This was useful for developers planning which Android versions their app would support.
However, the graphs were also used as a way of knowing how many Android devices were running the most current version of the operating system.
With other companies delaying the release of updates, Google’s statistics lagged far behind Apple, which led the company to make the information accessible only through Android Studio, in addition to updating the data less frequently.
In January, Android 13 appeared on the charts for the first time, revealing that the update has hit almost 5% of all devices worldwide since its release in August.
Now, Google has updated the information again and suggests there is a huge adoption of Android 13. According to new graphs, 12% of all Android phones and tablets are updated with the latest version of the operating system.
For comparison, when Android 12 first appeared on the charts, nearly a year after its launch, it had just 13.3% adoption. Apparently, Android 13 is rolling out to more devices at a much faster pace, but we’ll have to wait for more graphics to see if that continues.
A good part of the adoption is responsible for Samsung, with its large market share and the objective of updating most of its devices, in addition to companies like OnePlus, OPPO and Realme that have been bringing updates quickly.
