Together with iOS 16.3, watchOS 9.3, macOS 13.2 and company available from yesterday evening there are of the other versions of Apple’s operating systems whose rollout started at the same time. Updates benefit devices that can’t be updated to the latest versions but Apple didn’t want to leave without some important security fixes which can put those who still use one at risk.

New versions available from a few hours of old operating systems I am:

  • iOS 15.7.3
  • iOS 12.5.7
  • iPadOS 15.7.3
  • macOS Monterey 12.6.3
  • macOS Big Sur 11.7.3.

The versions listed contain the security fixes included in iOS 16.3, macOS 13.2 and so onso to continue using even rather “old” devices – the oldest supported by iOS 12.5.7, for example, is iPhone 5s, which dates back to 2013! – running the same security risks as an iPhone 14 Pro Max it is important to install updates as soon as possible.

Apple’s support policy has been clear for years: updates guaranteed up to 5 years after presentation. iPhone 5s has practically double that for which iOS 12.5.7 is not a dutyrather an extra, a gift if you like, that very few other manufacturers ship to devices presented ten years earlier, and the same can be said for macOS Big Sur which is the last system supported by Macs and MacBooks released in 2013.

Who has the automatic updates active he doesn’t have to do anything: if up Settings, General, Software Update if you have the automation active, then when the latest available version is downloaded into memory it will be installed at the first opportunity, typically at night when the iPhone is charging and connected to a Wi-Fi network. However, you can proceed independently installing new versions when you prefer, from Settings, Software Update.
