hospital without coverage

Despite the progress of programs such as UNICO and the commitment to 100% coverage in the coming years, there are still examples in our country that make us raise our hands to our heads. One of them is the Toledo Hospital, which currently does not have full mobile coveragewhich prevents family members, patients and workers from being isolated inside the health center.

Despite how modern this center is, inaugurated at the end of 2020, there are still several areas in this modern health center where you cannot talk on your mobile.

A hospital without the necessary coverage

This problem is not new or something specific that is due to a breakdown, but has been present since its inception. Last year, the managing director of the Castilla-La Mancha Health Service (Sescam), Regina Leal, assured that “shortly” the lack of mobile coverage would be solved. However, after the first half of 2022, the matter is still not fully resolved.

The problem had to do with technical complications derived from an incident with a lightning rod. “This was raised a long time ago. But they have had some technical complication due to a problem with a lightning rod and, shortly, we will have communication for all patients, users, professionals and visitors », he declared in December 2021.

Once this was fixed, for which he had even contacted a telecom company that was going to install satellite dishes in the hospital so that there could be such coverage, “we will have communication for all patients, users, professionals and visitors”, assured Regina Leal.

Solution attempt in March

Last Friday, March 18, an attempt was made to solve the problem by installing an antenna. Leal then pointed out that, although those responsible for this action had promised to attend on several occasions, they did inform him in writing that the antenna was going to be installed that day, trusting that this issue “will be resolved today [por ese 18 de marzo]».

However, it did not turn out quite well and, although it is true that the parabolic antenna tower was installed then, mobile phone coverage is not yet 100%.

After this intermediate solution, now the problem is on the side of mobile operators, according to sources from the University Hospital of Toledo: «Telefónica’s coverage is complete, the only thing missing is for the other operators to integrate into the tower installed by Movistar. Now it’s up to Vodafone and Orange [hay una de Yoigo a pocos metros de dicha antena de Movistar]».

If we take a look at an antenna map, we can see that the Movistar tower is located about 2.5 kilometers away Hospital de Toledo, so the problem should not be being out of the coverage radius of the nearest mobile antenna.

Until the problem is resolved, as the director of Sescam said, «calls can be made from within the hospital using WiFialthough with the installation of the antenna the problems of mobile coverage will be solved».
