Immersive View, the Google Maps feature optimized by artificial intelligence announced by Google last February in Paris along with many other new features, has been expanded these days to over 500 iconic landmarks around the worldincluding some of the most significant monuments of the cities of Florence, Venice, Milan, Rome and Pisa.

Google Maps also updates with “Directions at a glance” for traveling on foot, by bicycle and by public transport, and with “Recent tab updates”, to make it even easier to use and navigate Google Maps from your desktop.

IMMERSIVE VIEWING FOR OVER 500 POIs

Combining billions of Street View images and aerial images, Immersive View allows you to “create an incredibly rich and multidimensional model of places and monuments” which also includes weather and traffic overlays. Google, according to what was stated in the announcement phase, uses Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF)internally developed, for transform ordinary images into 3D and to reconstruct the context of a specific place, including lighting.

The list of points of interest covered in Italy by the Immersive View function is already quite extensive. In fact, today there are 33 Italian places that we can virtually fly over to see the details, look for the entrance or scroll the appropriate command to see it as it appears at different times of the day. Starting from Venice, Immersive Visualization is available for the Doge’s Palace, the Rialto Bridge; in Milan we can fly over the Duomo or Palazzo Reale, in Rome we cannot miss the Colosseum, Castel Sant’Angelo and the Trevi Fountain.

QUICK DIRECTIONS FOR IOS AND ANDROID

Starting this month, moreover, the “quick directions” in Google Maps will also be activated in Italy for walking, cycling and driving modes on Android and iOS. This feature will make it easier to follow the progress of your journey directly from the lock screen or from the route overview.

Once activated, simply request directions to your destination and start walking. will come on the display Estimated arrival time and next turn are displayed, information that was previously only available in full navigation mode, within the app. In case you decide to change the route, obviously, the indications will be automatically updated

‘RECENT’ ON THE DESKTOP VERSION OF MAPS

Finally, on the desktop version of Google Maps, comes the “Recents” feature which allows users to automatically organize previously searched places in a convenient highlighted section located on the sides of the map.

You will be able to choose 3 or more places from your Recents

The places you searched for will be saved in Recents even after you close the Google Maps window so that you can find them again later, perhaps after taking a break from planning a route. However, all displayed places can be easily deleted and multiple trips can be planned at the same time and shared selection of places. Once three or more destinations are chosen, Maps will create a custom route which will touch all the chosen stages and save them in Recent
