Seeing that this would-be alternative to Twitter was not taking off, the creators of Telepath decided to shut it down last year and went to work on Wavelength, their group chat platform, noting that users prefer to participate more in messaging platforms.

Wavelength It aims to be the alternative to platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram and other similar messaging platforms, putting group chats at the center of the experience, allowing each conversation to have its own thread within a group chat, allowing the monitoring of their news in a simple way. , email inbox style, even if there are quite a few active conversations.

This behavior differs from what exists in the main messaging platforms, in which in group chats the different conversations are mixed in a single thread, making it difficult to follow the news that occurs in the conversations in which one is interested.

It has its own bot based on OpenAI GPT 3.5 technology

In addition, this new platform already has its own bot based on OpenAI’s GPT-3.5 technology integrated into its service, so it will not be necessary to use some of the third-party services that already exist today to interact with GPT technologies. , as is currently the case with WhatsApp.

This integration, in a similar way to what is already possible with Bing integrated into Skype, opens up a set of possibilities, even for those group chats where there are hardly any users, from asking for specific information to requesting recommendations of all kinds, which will give more dynamism. to the conversations.

Private and secure conversations

Also, Wavelength is a privacy-focused platform, so it can’t track conversations and make related requests. All communications are end-to-end encrypted (something that some governments and public bodies are looking at wrong on some platforms).

However, one of the few drawbacks of this new platform is that of allowing access to groups. Users will be able to access existing groups either through invitation links provided from other platforms, although they will also be able to discover large semi-open groups, although the maximum capacity for group chats is 10,000 users.

There are functions, even by AI, that are on the way

For now, the development team has a roadmap of functions, even based on Artificial Intelligence, which it will bring over time, currently lacking elements already common in other messaging platforms, such as reactions to messages. messages, group calls or moderation tools, where the latter is already in the development phase.

There is also the drawback that this platform will become practical if the contacts themselves are also available on it. We already know how difficult it is to convince users to switch to another platform when they have their contacts on WhatsApp or at most on Telegram.

Freemium business model

The developers want to keep this platform free and ad-free, due to its privacy implications, for individual users, while hoping to eventually release a Pro version with many more features, and aimed at businesses and organizations looking to compete with platforms like slack.

Wavelength is currently available for iPhone, iPad, and Mac computers, with an Android version coming later.
