Twitter launches new 'Official' badge that cannot be purchased

Twitter in the Elon Musk era started selling the much-desired Verified badge under the Blue plan and that means anyone on a budget can flaunt it on their account.

However, as verified was used to differentiate common accounts from official government and company channels, Musk’s team decided to create a new seal that cannot be purchased🇧🇷

We’re talking about the “Official” seal. The news began to circulate this Wednesday, and it will be distributed free of charge to accounts that represent official channels of governments, politicians, companies, major media, publishers and public figures.

The tendency is that the new Officer seal is not distributed as easily as Verified was before the Blue plan.

According to the Twitter team, the idea behind the new seal is to avoid possible confusion among users, since before the verified seal was the certainty that that profile represented a politician, for example.

Now, the Official seal will do this role of showing that that account is really authentic, but there is a big catch: the novelty only appears inside the profile page.

That is, the fact that the seal is not next to the user’s name – as the verified seal is – should still cause confusion in the comments, for example.

Esther Crawford, director of Product Management at Twitter, said the company is aware of the issue and is still exploring more ways to differentiate between account types. Therefore, news should emerge over the next few days.
