Even though The Mandalorian Season 3 premieres just a few days away, Disney and Lucasfilm are already thinking about the future of the series and the Star Wars franchise as a whole.

While The Book of Boba Fett is a series most closely connected to The Mandalorian’s setting, the Mandalorian series has, by and large, been the only window into the time period between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens that we’ve seen on screen. . This means that our view of that world is very limited to the adventures of Din Djarin and the characters around him, even as this production has started to include more and more Star Wars characters that we’ve met several times before.

Now that two more series are on the way in similar time periods – Ahsoka, arguably more of a spinoff of The Mandalorian as it is a spiritual continuation of Star Wars Rebels, and Skeleton Crew, starring Jude Law – The Mandalorian becomes a series that has to be more conscious of what it sets and presents about the galaxy far, far away, especially when dealing with some of the main characters in that universe.

In a recent interview, producer Jon Fraveau commented a little bit about having already written The Mandalorian season 4 and how it connects to the other stories:

The Fourth season, yes, I already wrote it. We have to know where we are going to tell a fully formed story. We had it mapped out, Dave [Filoni] and me, and slowly you start writing each episode. I was writing during post-production. All of this has to feel like a continuation and a complete story.

[Dave está] doing Ahsoka, which I’m producing with him. He’s the writer and showrunner of it. To understand what’s happening in other series… Skeleton Crew all take place within the same Star Wars time period. There are a lot more things that we have to keep in mind and also things that we’ve built on in previous seasons of The Mandalorian.

It’s interesting to see how The Mandalorian has evolved from a smaller story more independent of the great events experienced by the Skywalker family to become a starting point for a multitude of other productions.
