Quality design with sobriety as a flag

The Medion Eraser Beast X30as a good gaming laptop with a slim design, it saves powerful external elements to offer a more discreet appearance where special attention has been paid to the raw material.

The Medion Eraser Beast X30 is a gaming laptop to boast a large diagonal in little space and weight, not to attract attention

The casing of the new Medion Eraser may be too sober for some potential users. It’s not your team if you want attention. The casing of magnesium alloy, it is completely black, with a matte finish and only a small band of LEDs is allowed to be licensed on the front of the lower case. It is well finished with predominantly smooth lines and a very good feel.

However the Medion Eraser Beast X30 yes, it is your laptop if you aspire to have a machine with a large screen (17 inches) with very little weight. We talk about 2.2kg, quite an achievement in this size of gaming laptop. Also the thickness, at 26 mm, is a very positive highlight for this type of powerful gaming laptop.

In addition to being very light, the Medion Eraser Beast X30 has a contained thickness

There are two more elements to comment on the design: the hinge, robust but that allows an opening that does not go much beyond 120 degrees, as well as the power button, located together with the charge status LED just above the keyboard and very accessible.

One button to turn on/off and one to switch power modes

It should also be noted that next to that button we have a specific one to switch between the operating modes of the equipment and not necessarily have to go through the company’s control software.

Well connected for what you need

as good 17 inch laptop, connectivity is one of the strengths of the Medion Eraser Beast X30. We have numerous ports distributed both on the sides and on the back of the equipment.

Right in that back part we find the most focused connectivity in the possible video outputs of the equipment, with an HDMI 2.1 port and the only USB-C port of the laptop, which is Thunderbolt 4. In that back part we also have the Ethernet port (and the proprietary power input).

If we look at the right side we have two USB-A ports (3.2 Gen1 and Gen2) and a microSD card slot while on the left side there is room for a third USB-A port (3.2 Gen2) and the double 3.5 mm jack port for headphones and microphone.

Regarding Wi-Fi connectivity, this Medion offers Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.

One element that we miss in this Medion Eraser Beast X30 is a fingerprint reader. We have to make do with face recognition identification thanks to the fact that the webcam is prepared for it.

Speaking of the webcam, he introduces himself with Full HD quality although it does not represent a great leap in terms of quality compared to the 720p of other laptops in the same range.

QHD display at 165Hz

With well-balanced technical sheets and already quite personal decisions at the design level, the screen It is one of the key elements to make a difference in a gaming laptop today.

The Medion Eraser Beast X30 offers a single solution at the screen level: an IPS panel with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels at 165Hz. It is, for now, the only version available in Spain.

The Medion Eraser Beast X30 screen is adjusted to its price: 165 Hz panel, matte finish and QHD resolution

The panel, with contrast of 1200:1 and a little more than 350 nits of brightness, has a matte finish and is perfectly adjusted for tasks of all kinds, with the correct pixel density, brightness and response time. It is a screen with 100% coverage of the sRGB color space, so it is intended more for general tasks than those that require high fidelity in color reproduction.

The diagonal, although it may not seem so due to the general size of the equipment, is 17.3 inchesideal for a gaming laptop that we do not want to use with an external screen, and its quite small frames must be highlighted, especially on the sides and upper frame.

As we will see later, the sound section when we are playing is the least important in this equipment because, when we want to get the most out of its hardware, the noise of the fans is tremendously high.

We are talking about two main speakers located in the lower part of the case, with a fairly discreet sound (flat and not excessively powerful) if we take into account what we have found in this type of range of gaming laptops. It is a point that Medion must improve a lot.

An RTX 3070 Ti in search of balance

The Medion Eraser Beast X30in the version available in Spain and which is the one we have analyzed, seeks a balance between processor, screen and graphics card with its technical sheet.

We have as a base a Core i7-12700H along with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. RAM memory is 32GB DDR5 4800MHzcombined with a 1TB PCIe Gen 4×4 SSD, which has given us good performance in our tests, although far from the best we have tested this year:

Regarding the raw power of the processor, excellent performance also as expected from its technical sheet. All the tests are carried out under the most powerful profile, in this case called Turbo. Two others are available: Game and Office.

In Cinebench R20 we scored over 7,000 points, while in Cinebench R23 it exceeded 17,000 points in the multi-core test and 1,400 points in the multi-core test. single.

The Medion Eraser Beast X30 is a gaming laptop that gets the most out of its hardware

If we compare with the same tests carried out on the latest gaming laptops in Xataka, this Medion surpasses all the others, whether they are with the same Intel Core i7 or with the superior Core i9.

In the graphic section, the excellent performance of the hardware of this equipment is maintained, always in Turbo mode. In the test that we take as a reference for our tests, 3DMark Fire Strike, this Medion Eraser Beast X30 It once again comfortably outperforms laptops with the same processor and graphics that we have tested this year:

If we go on to play with the Medion Eraser Beast X30 we find ourselves again with a excellent use of the hardware components of the equipment. This laptop again outperforms equivalents from other brands in the comparison we made with Shadow of the Tomb Raider, reaching 127 fps with FullHD resolution and maximum graphics quality.

In other games with similar requirements, we have easily moved between 80-100 fps with FullHD solution and above 70fps in the panel’s native resolution, 1440p. We have for example 102 fps in Far Cry 5 at 1080p and 75 fps in QHD, while in others like Battlefield V we exceed 163 fps at 1080p and 125 fps at QHD.

This demonstration of power in Turbo mode, the most powerful available, has as an element against the noise generated. The two fans, which are practically inaudible when we use the equipment in the office mode and more general tasks, they are put into full sound performance when we are playing or in stress tests. And it makes perfect sense because of how quickly the temperatures of the equipment increase when we demand it.

Obtaining the maximum performance of the Medion Eraser Beast X30 means resorting to headphones due to the high noise generated during operation

A good idea is to opt for the Game mode, in which the system tries to control the noise generated without slightly declining performance.

We can manage all of this quite completely from the brand’s Control Center software, simple in appearance but with the basic options necessary even to control the fans.

Not bad autonomy

The Medion Eraser Beast X30Despite its low weight, it reduces the capacity of its battery to 91.2Wh. The equipment comes with its own proprietary charger, weighing almost 1 Kg, which we cannot do without because this Medion does not allow the battery to be charged in an extraordinary way.
