Huawei Mate 50 Pro arrives on the international market after the debut in China on 6 September: will cost € 1,299 for the “basic” version (8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage with silver or black back) and € 1,399 for the larger one (always 8 GB of RAM, 512 GB of storage and orange back). It seems that it will be the only model in the range to cross the Chinese borders: Huawei has already confirmed that the Mate 50E and Mate 50 RS will never arrive, while for the “smooth” Mate 50 it has limited itself to saying that it is not planned for now, leaving a minimum of window.

Mate 50 Pro is equipped with a front display with notch, moreover rather broad: a solution that nowadays is more unique than rare in the Android world, especially when you look at the high / top end. The choice is dictated by the presence of an auxiliary 3D camera with ToF technology for face mapping. On the back there are three cameras: a 13 MP ultra-wide angle, a 64 MP periscope telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom, and (star of the show) a main 50MP wide angle lens with variable aperture, from f / 1.4 to f / 4.0. Compared to the Chinese version, there are the following differences to keep in mind:

  • Satellite connectivity to send emergency messages is not active (it is only compatible with the Chinese constellation Beidou)
  • The software interface is EMUI 13 instead of HarmonyOS 3.0

As usual, due to restrictions imposed by the United States, some technologies and services will be missing to which we are now well accustomed: the Play Store and Google services in the first place, but also the 5G connectivity (the SoC is still a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus, but limited hardware to only 4G) and the Gorilla Glass coating by Corning (at its place we find the owner Kunlun Glass). We recall the complete technical sheet:
