You can get rid of annoying name suffixes when selecting color profiles for screens in macOS by deleting a folder.
Question: I used to install and remove the SwitchResX software. Nevertheless, there is still an entry with “SwitchResX” in the name in the “Displays” system settings under “Color profile”. As a test, I deleted all profiles from /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays and macOS even restored the default profile after a reboot. Nevertheless, SwitchResX seems to have somehow burned itself in.
Mac & i replies: Basically, this is a cosmetic problem. The selected color profile works despite the changed name and shows exactly the same colors.
However, if the naming bothers you, you must change the folder /Library/Displays/Contents/Resources/Overrides
Clear. Files contained in it overwrite the properties of a screen including its name. SwitchResX uses this to make custom resolutions available to the system. After a restart, the color profile should show the usual name.
