AU Optronics (AUO), Taiwanese manufacturer of panels for monitors and televisions, is presenting its new products for the gaming monitor segment at Touch Taiwan 2023, an event that will take place until the end of this week. During the exhibition, the company unveiled two high-performance screens that stand out for their high resolution and fluidity.

In highlight, the manufacturer presented its new 49-inch screen with 5,120 x 1,440 resolution and up to 360 Hz refresh rate. The display has a 32:9 aspect ratio, which is equivalent to two conventional monitors with Quad HD resolution, and has 1000R curvature to ensure more immersion for gamers.

Thanks to AUO’s proprietary PSA technology—similar to VA panels—monitors equipped with this display can display content in HDR with peak brightness of 600 nits and contrast ratio of 5,000:1. Agile, the component has a GtG response time of just 1 millisecond. The screen covers 95% of the DCI-P3 color gamut.

Although the AUO advertises this component as a 5K screen, it is important to note that this resolution should be at least 2,880 pixels high to be considered “true”. The new 49-inch screen, on the other hand, is only 1,440 pixels tall, which makes it very similar to the Samsung Odyssey G9, but with a higher refresh rate.

The second screen presented by the manufacturer has a flat configuration with a diagonal of 32 inches, 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) and a refresh rate of 240 Hz. This component stands out for its Advanced Reflectionless Technology (ART) technologywhich reduces light reflections to avoid visualization problems during use.

The technology used in this display is AHVA, also proprietary to AUO, which behaves similarly to IPS. The brightness of this screen is limited to just 400 nits, but the hardware is still capable of delivering a GtG response time of 1 millisecond and coverage of 95% of the DCI-P3 color gamut — not very common in 4K screens.

AUO has not confirmed which will be the first monitors on the market with its new screens optimized for games, but it is possible that the models will be revealed during the big technology events that will take place in the coming months, such as Computex 2023.
