Ataria is one of the biggest veterans in the video game industry, and as much as it has lost much of its grandeur over the years, the company seems to be trying to return to its glory days using nostalgia as its main weapon.

In March, the company acquired the Nightidive studio, known for reviving classic video game franchises, and this week, it announced the acquisition of more than 100 PC and console games from the 80s and 90s.

In an official statement on its website, Atari announced the acquisition of copyrights to a long list of classic games from the 80s and 90s, including Bubsy, HardBall, Demolition Force and 1942: Pacific Air War.

According to the company, it plans to put old games back in stores, expanding its distribution through digital means.

This is a deep catalog that includes revolutionary and award-winning titles from Accolade, Infogrames and Microprose.

Many of these titles are part of Atari’s history, and fans can expect to see many of these games re-released in physical and digital formats, and in some cases even ported to modern consoles.

With the acquisition, Atari will also be able to use the Accolade and GTI Brands in its promotional materials. Accolade was a studio known for its sports titles that operated between the late 1980s and early 2000s.

In its statement, the company reiterates that it intends to “reinvent old classics, reimagine stories and develop entirely new narratives inspired by the games that defined the course of an entire industry”.

For now, we can only wait for Atari’s next steps.
