speed 100 Mbps Spain

In recent times, the evolution of fiber optics in Spain can be said to have gone in the right direction. In fact, for a long time it has surpassed ADSL in our country. However, the important thing here is whether or not to have this Internet connection, but what is relevant is that it is already common have more than 100 Mbps of fiber in Spanish homes.

In fact, Spain is among the countries with greater fiber coverage deployed in their territories. For this reason, it is normal that, as this connection progresses, users want more speed. In addition, it is something necessary, since people’s habits have been changing and with the use we make of streaming platforms, the Internet, downloads… it is logical that we need more speed in our homes.

Spanish homes have more than 100 Mbps

The deployment of fiber optics already reaches 82% of fixed broadband lines In our country. And not only that, but right now the trend is for users to have more than 100 Mbps of contracted speed in their homes with one of the current operators. Partly thanks to the great offer of fiber optics from the operators in our country.

And we must not lose sight of the data from the CNMC (National Commission for Markets and Competition) that show us how, of the 16.8 million connections fixed broadband, there were more than 15 million connections that had a contracted speed of 100Mbps or higher.

A rather curious fact. Although, that leads us to also analyze how more and more operators have been leaving aside their 100 Mbps “cheap fiber”. Especially since the rise in prices of different operators due to inflation and also due to the cost of energy. In any case, it is increasingly difficult to contract this type of fiber-only rate. And, in other cases, the operators ask us that we are already customers to merge the 100 Mbps fiber with a mobile line.

The deployment of fiber does not stop

Leaving aside that small detail that we have given you, the truth is that fiber does not stop expanding throughout our country. And, over time, it will be more common for operators to offer higher speeds, as is the case with DIGI or Orange with the 10Gbps.

In addition, as the CNMC informs us, «the only accesses that grew were fiber to the home (FTTH), with 69.8 million deployed accesses6.5 million more than the previous year«. And 75.1% of these fixed broadband lines are from Movistar, Vodafone and Orange, three of the largest in Spain. Although, they have lost 3.4% over the previous year.

It must also be taken into account that operators such as Movistar are working to bring their fiber network to the rural areas of our country. Therefore, everything indicates that, in a few years, the entire country will be able to enjoy this type of Internet connection.
