Sony is adding accessibility tags to PS4 and PS5 games that users will find on the PS5 PlayStation Store.
This will allow users to easily know what accessibility features each title has before they choose, so they can customize the gaming experience.
Accessibilities tags in PS4 and PS5 games
Sony is implementing a new dynamic in the PlayStation Store on PS5, which will allow developers to add supported accessibility features to the game listing. For example, here are some of the tags that could be included:
- Visuals, such as clear text, directional audio indicators, high-contrast images, large text, and more
- Audio functions such as volume control, 3D audio, visual cue alternatives, etc.
- Different types and sizes of subtitles to make them clearly visible to the user
- Control options and game settings, such as the ability to play without having to use the buttons
- Communication options, such as text chat transcript
In total, there are more than 50 accessibility labels organized in 6 different categories. So the user will be able to enter the game tab and search for the accessibility features available to customize their game dynamics.
At the moment, these accessibility tags will only be implemented in some games, but it will be gradually extended to new titles in the future. Some games that already have these tags available are:
Days Gone, Death Stranding Director’s Cut, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, God of War, God of War Ragnarök, Gran Turismo 7, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: A Big Adventure or Returnal
This new dynamic is added to other initiatives that Sony has implemented, and that take into account the needs of users when personalizing their gaming experience.
