Since the launch of its first foldable smartphone, the Razr, Motorola has immediately made clear the importance it has placed in wanting to offer the user a really useful external display in daily use, able to show not only entire notifications but also to carry out many operations, including writing a message, without necessarily opening the device.

This idea of his, subsequently also imitated by OPPO with its N2 Flip which offers a 3.26″ display, was further declined in subsequent versions of the Razr and would now be ready to show itself in its maximum expression on the Razr 40 Ultra which, according to the many rumors that are gradually intensifying as we approach the presentation date (it is assumed at the beginning of June in Madrid), will have a display that will occupy practically the entire front.

SNAPDRAGON 8+ GEN1 AND 12GB RAM

We already knew a lot about the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra and we have already seen a considerable amount of more or less unofficial press renders. Today, many other details have arrived on the specifications of this foldable smartphone which will probably also be joined by a “lite” version (which should simply be called Motorola Razr40) equipped with mid-range hardware specifications and a decidedly smaller and more essential external display.

The Razr 40 Ultra it will be almost a top of the line from a hardware point of view. We use the “almost” since the processor that Motorola would have chosen is not the most powerful currently available on the market. It would still be a very good Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 supported with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage.

A LARGE OUTDOOR DISPLAY

As for the displays, the main internal one should be a 6.9-inch AMOLED with a resolution of 2640×1080 pixels, HDR and, possibly, a 144Hz refresh rate. The external display, on the other hand, should have a 3.6-inch diagonal and a resolution of 1056×1066 pixels.

As for the photographic sector there are two external cameras, one should have a 12MP Sony IMX563 sensorthe other a 13MP SK Hynix Hi1336 sensor with wide angle lens. The internal camera, on the other hand, should have a sensor 32MP OmniVision OV32B40. Finally, the battery should be from 3,640mAh with 33W charging support.

According to the rumors reported by XDA, which should be a variant of the Razr 40 Ultra with support dual SIM, eSIM and with ultra-wideband technology. There will be NFC and a fingerprint recognition sensor. There are three possible color variants: “Barberry / Viva Magenta” (leaning towards garnet with a leatherette finish), “Phantom Black” and “Glacier Blue”.

WIDE CUSTOMIZATION POSSIBILITIES

The external display of the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra should deliver several customization options to allow for greater usability, one of the limitations of the current Razr. Among these, the possibility of change the layout, fonts, colors, shapes of the icons and even the size of the display. Also in this case, moreover, it should be possible to use all the apps on the external display, even if it will not be a default setting.

Finally, the Razr 40 Ultra should also have a kind of “flex” mode similar to that of Samsung, to adapt some apps to view on a partially open display. The operating system will be Android 13 with My UX user interface. As for the prices, previous rumors would point to around 1,200 euros in the price list. No information, however, for the basic version of the Razr 40.
