Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence recently joined X, but it has been testing for some time. Find out everything about Grok: how it works, how much it costs and more

Grok is the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot created by xAI, Elon Musk ‘s company . The tool has piqued the curiosity of users of X (formerly Twitter) after its icon became available on the social network. Despite being new in Brazil, Grok has existed since November 2023 and has been gradually released in selected countries. To access the chatbot, you must be a subscriber to the X Premium or Premium+ plans. Next, find out more about Grok, how much subscriptions cost and how to use the tool.

What is Grok?

Grok is a conversational artificial intelligence developed by xAI, Elon Musk’s company focused on AI. According to the company, the tool was created thinking about “accelerating human scientific discovery”, being guided by the mission of ‘advancing the collective understanding of the universe’”. Generally speaking, Grok works in a similar way to other AI chatbots, such as ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot , trained to interact with humans in a natural and fluid way.

The tool was developed to answer all types of questions and even suggests additional questions that can be asked. Furthermore, Grok has interaction modes, which can be activated by users. In “fun” mode, for example, the chatbot is more sarcastic and playful.

Grok x ChatGPT: what’s the difference?

A fundamental difference between ChatGPT and Grok is the training of both platforms. While OpenAI ‘s artificial intelligence is programmed to avoid controversial questions, Elon Musk’s tool promises to answer all types of questions, including those that are rejected by other platforms. It is worth mentioning that ChatGPT has some limitations to try to avoid malicious, prejudiced content or for security reasons.

Another difference between the two chatbots is technological advancement. Recently, OpenAI launched its newest model, GPT-4o , which brought innovations such as the ability to process images, audio and text in the same neural network. Grok is still in the early access phase, which occurs when the software is not yet complete to be released to the general public. Currently, X Premium users have access to the Grok-1.5 model.

For now, Grok is only available to users of X’s Premium and Premium+ plans. Subscriptions cost, respectively, R$42 and R$84 for the monthly plan. If you want to subscribe annually, these values increase to R$36 and R$73 per month. It is worth mentioning that X also has a Basic plan, which costs R$15.75 monthly and R$13.97 annually, but which does not entitle you to early access to Grok.

After completing the subscription, the user can access Grok via the website or through the X app. To do this, simply click on the chatbot icon (which looks like a square with rounded corners with a bar “/” in the center) and start the conversation. In the web version, Grok is in the left side menu, below “Messages”. In the X app for Android and iPhone ( iOS ), Grok is located in the central position of the bottom menu, between the search magnifying glass and the bell that indicates notifications.
