In recent months, several reliable sources had claimed that on the iPhone 15 Pro the classic physical keys would have been retired to make way for capacitive tactile buttons that would simulate pressing with a slight vibration of the taptic engine. However, in recent weeks, new rumors have circulated according to which Apple has decided to continue using physical keys due to unspecified “production problems”
Confirmation of this decision would also be evidenced by updated CAD files obtained from 9to5Mac on the basis of which new renderings have been created which would confirm the Presence of traditional volume keys and of a button instead of the switch for the ringtone which should allow for more functionality. Many even speculate that it can “emulate” the action button we saw on the Apple Watch Ultra.
In addition to muting the volume, the action button may have customizable behavior and different behaviors depending on the context in which it is used. As stated by the leaker @analyst941in the camera may allow you to take a photo: a light press will focus, a longer press will take a photo, and a hard and long press will start recording a video.
According to the leaked information, this new button would still be provided only for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max while the classic two-position switch should remain on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
As well as showcasing the design of the side buttons, the new CAD file also confirms further design details including rear photo modules that are slightly larger than the current ones (crediting rumors of the possible adoption of a periscope camera on the Max) but less protruding, the significantly reduced display bezels, the USB-C port and a much more rounded profile than the current iPhone 14 series.
