At the beginning of March, Google proudly announced what it defined as “a new speed milestone for Chrome“, that is the fact that your browser starting from version 99 has proved to be faster than Safari on Mac, thus beating Apple in its home in this respect. And it is not easy, of course, considering the great optimization work that Cupertino does on its products, harmonizing hardware and software.

Now, three months after this milestone, Mountain View returns to the question and specifies that Chrome on Mac is even faster than other browsers (including Safari) and itself, reaffirming its primacy and further raising the benchmark. The test was conducted again using Apple’s own Speedometer, as in March, and the result of 360 points is equivalent to a further speed increase compared to March equal to 20%. Not a little.

Going into the technical details, this boost is attributable in particular to some changes made to ThinLTO as well as a series of optimizations for JavaScript. Chrome, in general, has benefited enormously from the arrival of the Apple Silicon architecture, managing to exploit more and more the capabilities of the M1 chips: compared to the very first native version for the new SoCs, now the Google browser is faster on the Mac than the 43%.
