Design and connectivity
The design of the Bmax B1 is, to say the least, simple, but it has its charm due to how compact and light what is it. Thanks to this we can place or mount the computer anywhere (such as behind the monitor) and also take it with us without further consideration.
With that said, The chassis is made of plastic with a black color theme that permeates the entire device. The Bmax name is written in dots on the front, along with the company’s logo, which looks suspiciously like that of the Decepticons, the sworn enemies of the Transformers; Let’s hope this is just a coincidence and that no unit of this Mini-PC turns out to be an alien robot intent on conquering the world.
Jokes aside, the BMAX B1 Pro has vents on almost all sides for passive coolingsince it does not have an internal fan.
When it comes to physical interfaces, the BMAX B1 Pro is better equipped than we would normally expect from a Mini-PC. To begin with, there are two USB 3.0 ports on the left side, as well as a slot with Micro-SD memory card reader. At the upper end we find two USB 2.0 ports, one HDMI output, one Ethernet port and one 3.5mm audio jack for headphones or speakers.
Last but not least, the right corner is occupied only by an old VGA video port, something that may seem strange or unnecessary to many users, but can be useful if you have an older monitor, so we appreciate its inclusion anyway. Also, this lends itself to dual monitor setups.
The only disappointing thing here is that there is not even a single USB Type-C port and that the Mini-PC is powered by a proprietary connector.
Hardware and features
When it comes to hardware, the BMAX B1 Pro is not going to win any awards, this device has a processor as humble as Intel’s line of chips allows, we are referring to a Dual-core Celeron N4000 (and 2 threads) at 2.6GHz, which is accompanied by an integrated Intel UHD 600 GPU, which surprisingly supports 4K resolution.
To that set we must add about 8GB of RAM, which is what we consider the minimum today. For its part, the internal storage can be 128GB or 256GB depending on the version chosen. If space seems too little for you, you can always add an NVME/SSD using the free M.2 slot that remains free; We can access the latter conveniently by simply removing a cover at the bottom of the equipment.
At the operating system level, this Mini-PC ships with a activated copy of Windows 11so we are in for an experience that most consumers are already well familiar with.
When it comes to the performance delivered by this Mini-PC, it is clear that office automation, light editing and multimedia content playback are the ideal use cases for the BMAX B1 Pro. It is not made for demanding tasks, much less for games, although It can move 2D indie titles in an acceptable manner thanks to its iGPU. For its price, we will hardly find something better or more powerful on the market, so we cannot complain much about its poor performance.
As an incentive, the low performance of its CPU means that the BMAX B1 Pro has the luxury of not having a fan, so users of this device are in for a treat. Silent user experience at all times.
Wireless connectivity
In addition to a wide repertoire of physical connections, the BMAX B1 Pro has the essentials in terms of wireless connectivity. In this sense, it supports Dual band Wi-Fi to connect to the network, as well as supporting Bluetooth 4.2 in case we need to pair other peripherals such as wireless headphones, printers, speakers, among others.
