On September 7, Apple reportedly wants to introduce a Pro version of its Apple Watch. What it can do and what changes with the Series 8 – an overview.

Apple is reportedly planning a larger and more robust version of its digital watch, which should also make athletes happier. Of course, the standard models with the Series 8 should also receive an update. And the budget model, the Apple Watch SE, could be relaunched in a different way.
With the two Series 8 models, the Apple Watch SE and the alleged Apple Watch Pro, Apple would for the first time present up to four new models at the same time at its event, which takes place in the Steve Jobs Theater. Below is an overview of what we already know about it.
Apple Watch Pro: More elegant and more robust
At first glance, it seems like a contradiction: A larger Apple Watch with higher-quality materials that is also supposed to be more robust and able to cope with extreme athletes. Even if a lot has already been read about the Apple Watch Pro, there are still all sorts of question marks as to how exactly the new upper class should be imagined.
The case is rumored to be made of a more robust titanium alloy. Titan was previously used as the “Apple Watch Edition”. It was a higher priced option on the Apple Watch compared to the aluminum and stainless steel variants.
What does the Apple Watch Pro look like?
The Apple Watch Pro isn’t said to have a round body, but recent rumors suggest it could look a lot more like the angular design of the iPhone 13. In any case, Apple also expresses the robustness visually: The 47-millimeter watch is said to be more powerful than the 45-millimeter version of the Series 7. The two-inch screen is said to offer 7 percent more area, so the resolution is 410 × 502 pixels. For comparison: The Series 7 has a resolution of 396 × 484 pixels.
What more can the Apple Watch Pro do?
Due to its size, the Apple Watch Pro – which could also be called Apple Watch Max or Apple Watch Extreme – should offer space for a more powerful battery and thus more battery life. She should also get the body temperature sensor that is said to be introduced with the Apple Watch Series 8. According to rumours, this will not necessarily be able to display the temperature precisely, but will indicate changes so that a conventional clinical thermometer can be used to measure it if necessary. Otherwise, however, optimizations should be made to the software with existing sensors of the Apple Watch – in other words: athletes should get better statistics and data, but without new hardware features.
Apple Watch Series 8: With temperature sensor
According to current knowledge, the highlight of the Apple Watch Series 8 will be the new body temperature sensor. It would supplement the existing health sensors for pulse, heartbeat and blood oxygen. But because precise temperature measurements on the arm are difficult, it is said to be primarily about temperature differences. In addition to pointing out that the wearer of the watch might have an elevated temperature or even a fever, this difference measurement should be particularly useful for women who want to use it to monitor their cycle.
The Apple Watch Series 8 is also rumored to have longer battery life. The new S8 chip at the heart of the watch, on the other hand, does not offer any significant changes compared to the previous model. The S7 was also an update of the S6. Major changes are only expected for the S8.
Apple Watch SE: time for a 2nd generation?
The Apple Watch SE should finally be established as a cheap entry into Apple’s digital watch division. In addition, the aging Series 3 with its old design should give way. Meanwhile, the SE is to be refreshed. However, it is a small update: in addition to the S8 chip, which is to replace the S5 from 2020, there is also talk of an additional health sensor – either ECG or blood oxygen. Whether the display will be equipped with always-on technology remains unclear. The price should start unchanged at 299 euros – for comparison: Entry with the Series 3 is currently possible from 219 euros.
