With each Android update, Google tries to empower its customizable users, and Android 14 will be no exception. Indeed, the first beta of the OS indicates that it will be possible to customize its lock screen, exactly like what iOS 16 offers. Well, almost.

Over time, Google has made many efforts to make Android more visually digestible. This has notably gone through customization options, dear to many users and which have been developed over the years. Let’s mention pell-mell the themes which adapt to the wallpaper of the smartphone, as well as the project which could make it possible to personalize the colors of the applications.

Unsurprisingly, Google could therefore raise the bar a notch higher with Android 14, the first beta of which has been available for a few days. Indeed, our colleagues from 9to5Google have unearthed a new option in the OS settings, which brings a feature long awaited by users: the ability to customize their lock screen.

Android 14 adds customization options, but it’s still limited

The most observant will not have failed to notice that this feature comes a year after iOS 16, which also introduced the possibility of customizing its lock screen. So we know where the inspiration comes from, although there is still some progress to be made. For now, the options offered are far from equaling those allowed by Apple.

According to the information found by 9to5Google, the functionality only allows, for the moment, to customize the appearance of the clock, from the parameters of this one. Concretely, it is possible to select its color as well as its size and brightness on the screen. For the time being, the functionality is therefore still a bit light.

We therefore hope that Google will boost it in the coming weeks, for example by integrating widgets. The launch of Android 14 is not scheduled before at least the end of August, the Mountain View company has plenty of time to improve the option if the response from users is positive.
